FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about how PowerTrack Gambia works, who can report, and what the data means.

What is PowerTrack Gambia?

PowerTrack Gambia is an independent electricity status and outage information platform. It helps people see which areas currently have grid power and where outages are being experienced.

How does PowerTrack know if an area has power?

PowerTrack uses reports from approved Power Watchers located in different areas. These reports are combined and cross-checked before they are used to update the electricity status.

Who are Power Watchers?

Power Watchers are selected volunteers who live or work in a specific area and provide simple updates about whether grid electricity is ON or OFF.

How many Power Watchers are used in each area?

We aim to have three approved Power Watchers in each monitored area. This allows PowerTrack to cross-reference reports instead of relying on information from only one person.

Why are three Power Watchers used?

Electricity conditions can sometimes differ within the same area, and individual reports can be delayed or incorrect. Using three independent Power Watchers gives us a stronger and more reliable indication of the actual situation.

Can anyone report an outage?

No. Electricity status reports used by PowerTrack come only from approved Power Watchers. This helps protect the reliability and consistency of the data.

Is the information live?

PowerTrack is based on real-world reports from people currently experiencing the electricity situation in their area. Updates are therefore near real-time, but there may occasionally be a short delay between a change in power status and the platform being updated.

Does PowerTrack receive information directly from NAWEC?

Not necessarily. PowerTrack is designed primarily around independently collected community data from Power Watchers. Where official information is available, it may be shown separately or used as additional context.
